Phillips is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the needs of individuals with emotional and behavioral problems, and their families, through education, family support services, community education and advocacy.
We are a regional organization, providing services to the clients from the metropolitan areas encompassing Washington, DC, northern Virginia and central Maryland. The Phillips schools are considered premier special education programs of the region, each having been recognized as a Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. Additionally, Phillips garnered accolades in 2005 from the Washington Post as a finalist for their Excellence in Non-Profit Management Award.
Phillips Programs consist of two non-public day, special education schools, one in Annandale, Virginia and the other in Laurel, Maryland. Each school provides comprehensive education services for students unable to succeed in general education public school programs, special education classes within their public schools, or other specialized programs. The students range in age from 6 to 21, and are referred by their local school systems for emotional and behavioral problems, learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, and other developmental challenges. Phillips offers a highly individualized learning environment, small classes, an emphasis on academic, social, and vocational skills, and a strong behavioral support program. Staff also provide individual and group counseling, family liaison work, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy and physical therapy to students as needed.
