The ultimate goal of Alternative Solutions for Youth’s community-based residential treatment program is the promotion of residents’ healthy development and the amelioration of their individual problems that are personally and/or socially destructive.
The goals and objectives of the educational program are to provide a positive learning environment to improve the residents’ behavioral and educational performance. The certified teacher provides the opportunity for growth through individualized teaching and behavior programs that emphasize the positive traits of each resident.
Our educational services provide a structured and well-disciplined educational environment in which learning can take place, with opportunities for residents to establish one-to-one relationships with teachers and view them as people they trust, and to develop self-awareness by taking responsibilities, developing commitments, and assuming leadership roles. Our services provide residents with an understanding of their environment and the roles they need to assume to enhance their educational responsibility.
Our educational program offers special education, with a strong emphasis on individualized instruction; crisis intervention, not only to assist the resident through difficult situations, but to help improve problem solving skills; skill building, with an emphasis on interpersonal success through positive reinforcement; and recreational therapy to further aid in residents’ social and emotional development.
The educational program provides remedial academic support for appropriate, yet least restrictive, placement. Each resident is given individualized attention, testing, and counseling. Residents are not accepted into the program without a plan to satisfy their educational needs.
